On our granulated chemicals labels, the instructions say that you can add these straight into the water if the temperature is above 20°C; however, our recommendation is to always pre-dissolve chemical granules in a small jug of warm water before adding to your pool or hot tub.

By pre-dissolving chlorine or any other type of granules, this ensures the chemicals will disperse much more easily in the pool or hot tub once you’ve added them.
If you add granules directly into a pool or hot tub, the granules will just sink to the bottom and have much less chance of making their way through the water circulation. If the temperature isn’t high enough to dissolve the granules, they risk just sitting at the bottom and simply won’t be as effective
How to pre-dissolve granules before adding to pool or hot tub water.

Fill a clean jug or bucket (we recommend the ClearWater measuring set) with warm tap water, then measure your quantity of granules and mix them thoroughly until they are all dissolved. In the jug, add the chemicals to water, not the other way round.
Once you’re ready, pour the pre-dissolved granules into the water and try doing this in more than one spot for maximising the impact of the chemical. We would highly recommend activating the filter on pools and the massage jets on hot tubs to help disperse the solution more effectively.
